Mow the lawn

Mow your lawn now and you'll enjoy a greener, denser and harder-wearing patch throughout the summer. Whether you want a bowling-green lawn or just a bit of grass for the kids to play on, regular mowing will improve the appearance of your lawn and help keep it looking its best.

Things to do now in your garden & greenhouse ...

Fruit & veg
Sow peas in lengths of guttering under cover
Plant out onion sets in rows
Carefully dig away grass or plants growing close to fruit trees

Flowers

Sprinkle granular fertiliser round roses
Sow sweet peas into deep pots
Transplant evergreen shrubs and conifers to new sites

Greenhouse

Plant canna lilies in pots
Sow strawberry seeds, including alpine varieties
Visit garden centres to buy young bedding plants

Around the garden

Replenish gravel and grit mulches around alpine plants
Put slug barrier products around the tender new shoots
Dig plenty of compost into heavy clay soils
